SNK 40th Anniversary Collection on PS4

I had high praise for the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection when it came to the Nintendo Switch late last year. There wasn’t a whole lot that they could’ve done to make it better, other than adding more games. The biggest difference between the version I originally reviewed and this one are the games that were available to download post-release are present upon booting the game. None of them make the collection standout any more than before, although it’s nice to have them in their for history sake (Search & Rescue was probably my favorite of the new ones). Honestly, my original review still stands for how I feel about this port of the game. My biggest gripe is that the achievements that are present in the Switch version translate directly to trophies, and they’re all a bit boring. There are twelve available, and they’re all essentially just beating certain games. There’s no platinum trophy, and nothing added for the other games. I’m not as big into trophies as I once was, but this is still a missed opportunity as there could be some really fun challenges included with all the different games. Outside of this, the collection serves as a wonderful trip down memory lane.

Here at GBG we use a rating method that you are more than likely familiar with – a scale of 1 to 10. For clarification, we intend on using the entire scale: 1-4 is something you should probably avoid paying for; 5-7 is something that is worth playing, but probably not at full price; 8-10 is a great title that you can feel confident about buying. If you have any questions or comments about how we rate a game, please let us know.
